Can the elevator be made with hydraulic cylinders?

Elevators can utilize hydraulic cylinders, but they must meet specific conditions and technical requirements. Hydraulic elevators operate by using a hydraulic pump to pressurize oil into a cylinder, which pushes a plunger upward, thereby lifting the elevator car. The advantages of hydraulic elevators include a simple structure, ease of installation, lower requirements for elevator shafts, and flexible placement of the machine room. In some cases, they may not even require a dedicated machine room, reducing space usage within the building.

However, hydraulic elevators also have drawbacks. First, their operating speed is relatively low, typically not exceeding 1 m/s, and their lifting height is limited, generally within 30 meters. Second, hydraulic systems consume higher driving power and energy, and malfunctions may lead to hydraulic oil leaks, posing environmental pollution risks. Additionally, temperature fluctuations and load variations can affect system performance, complicating control mechanisms.

In contrast, traction elevators offer advantages such as smooth operation, low noise levels, energy efficiency, and environmental friendliness. With technological advancements, modern traction elevators require increasingly smaller shaft dimensions, making them suitable for compact residential spaces. Traction elevators dominate the market, and their safety has been rigorously validated over time. Therefore, when selecting an elevator type, it is essential to evaluate specific needs and conditions holistically.
